    mission: Grandma’s birthday

Retell a story and an explainer back to back, read a passage about old photos aloud, then answer two questions in a row: a plan and an experience, a minute and a half each.

    • 纪念 jìniàn · to commemorate; souvenir
    • 合影 héyǐng · group photo; take one together
    • 珍贵 zhēnguì · precious, valuable

    a passage to retell

    • There was a girl who copied her elder sister in everything. When her sister learned the piano, she learned it too; when her sister took up running, she ran too. After several years she was worse than her sister at all of it. Then one day she drew a picture just for fun, and discovered that what she loved most was drawing. So being yourself matters more than copying others.
    • Many older people can’t remember what happened last week, yet they remember little things from decades ago. That’s because they have told the stories of their youth to other people many times. Each time they tell a story, the memory gets a little deeper. So ask older people to tell you their stories more often.

    a passage to read aloud
