How long does it take?
79 days of about 25 minutes: 66 days of new words and grammar, 11 review missions and 2 practice exams. Nothing is locked, so go faster or slower as you like.
Does it match the DELF B1 exam?
It follows level B1 of the Common European Framework, the level of the DELF B1 diploma (tout public): the B1 words of the FLELex list (graded from French textbooks) plus the words B1 tasks need that the list leaves out, and the B1 grammar of the CEFR language inventory that France Éducation international links to. The DELF B1 has four papers, each out of 25: listening (about 25 minutes), reading (45 minutes), writing (45 minutes: one text of at least 160 words giving and defending your opinion) and speaking (about 15 minutes: a guided interview, a role play to solve a problem, and a point of view on a short document). You pass with 50 out of 100 and at least 5 in every paper. Our two practice exams copy that layout, with the multiple-choice listening and reading of the format used since 2020 and self-checked writing and speaking. They are DELF-style practice, not official DELF material: check france-education-international.fr before you book.

Saying what you think and why. You learn the subjunctive (il faut que tu viennes, je ne crois pas qu’il ait raison), the conditional (j’aimerais, si j’avais le temps, je partirais), the plus-que-parfait, the passive and the gérondif, the relatives dont, ce que and lequel, and the connectors of an argument: puisque, malgré, pourtant, d’une part … d’autre part, par conséquent. Every A1 and A2 word counts as known, so the lessons build on what you already have.
How do French spelling and sounds work at this level?
There is no extra reading line: the spelling is the reading, and every word has a recording. Many new forms sound alike, so listen and look: the subjunctive often sounds like the present (qu’il parle), je parlerais (conditional) sounds almost like je parlerai (future), and adverbs in -amment and -emment end with the same sound (évidemment, couramment).
