questions & answers

Is this really free?

Yes. Every lesson, exam and PDF is free, with no sign-up and no ads. Your progress is saved in your own browser, so nothing about you is stored by us.

Which HSK 4 does this cover?

The new HSK 4 of the HSK 3.0 syllabus (published November 2025, exams from 2026): all 1,000 new words of level 4, its 95 grammar points and the 150 characters it lists for handwriting. It builds on HSK 1, 2 and 3: their words are used freely from day 1, so learn those first. The older HSK 2.0 level 4 is a different list, and this is not official HSK material.

How long does it take?

About 30 minutes a day for 69 days: 57 learning days with up to 18 new words each, 10 story missions that review each unit, and two practice exams. Go slower whenever you like; the days wait for you.

Will this get me through the HSK 4 exam?

It covers the level-4 words and grammar, and the two practice exams copy the layout of the new HSK 4 sample paper (listening, reading and writing). The new HSK has not published its pass marks yet, so we show an indicative 60%. We can’t promise a result.

Pinyin, characters and voices?

Simplified characters, as in mainland China and the HSK. Pinyin follows the official word list and shows the spoken tone changes of 一 and 不. Most words are recorded by a native speaker (audio-cmn, CC BY-SA); some new HSK 4 words have no open recording yet, so they and full sentences use your device’s own Chinese voice.
