before you start
Level A1, for example our German A1 course: the present tense, the Perfekt of everyday verbs, der/die/das, du and Sie, and about 840 everyday words. Those words come back in every lesson here without being taught again.

questions & answers
Is it really free?
Yes. Every day, every recording and both practice exams are free, with no sign-up and no ads.
How long does it take?
62 days of about 20 minutes: 51 days of new words and grammar, 9 review missions and 2 practice exams. Nothing is locked, so go faster or slower as you like.
Does it match the Goethe-Zertifikat A2?
It follows the word list of the Goethe-Zertifikat A2 from the Goethe-Institut (about 1,300 entries counting the A1 words, plus its word groups: jobs, family, school subjects, holidays, times of day) and the usual A2 grammar: the Perfekt of every verb, weil, dass, ob, comparisons, adjective endings and polite requests. Our two practice exams copy the layout of the current Goethe-Zertifikat A2 for adults: reading, listening, writing and speaking, 100 points, pass mark 60. This is not official Goethe-Institut material: check goethe.de for the current exam before you book.
Which German do you teach?
The standard German of Germany, as the Goethe list does. Austrian and Swiss words come up where they matter (a trip to Vienna, Swiss francs), and every noun is taught with its article and its plural, because der, die and das still decide the endings at A2.
How do I say the new words?
Every word has a recording by a native speaker. German is mostly read as it is written; the A2 days add tips for the sounds learners trip over, such as ch, ü and ö, and the stress in long words like Krankenkasse.
