Level A2, for example our Spanish A1 and A2 courses: the present, the perfect, the preterite and the imperfect, the imperative, object pronouns and about 1,550 everyday words. Those words come back in every lesson here without being taught again.

questions & answers

Is it really free?

Yes. Every lesson, every recording, the writing and speaking tasks and both practice exams are free, with no sign-up and no ads.

How long does it take?

80 days of about 25 minutes: 65 days of new words and grammar, 13 review missions and 2 practice exams. Nothing is locked, so go faster or slower as you like.

Does it match the DELE B1?

It follows the B1 level of the Instituto Cervantes Plan Curricular, the syllabus the DELE exams are built on. There is no official DELE word list, so our 1,128 words combine the Plan Curricular B1 inventories with ELELex, a word list drawn from Spanish textbooks, plus a few words those lists leave for later, such as sin embargo and ojalá. Our two practice exams copy the current DELE B1 for adults, in the layout of the Instituto Cervantes exam guide (2014): reading (70 minutes, 5 tasks), listening (40 minutes, 5 tasks, each recording played twice), writing (60 minutes: an email or letter of 100–120 words and a text of 130–150 words) and speaking (about 15 minutes, after 15 minutes to prepare: a short talk, a conversation about it, a photo and a role play), each worth 25 points. You pass the real exam with at least 30 of 50 in reading and writing together and 30 of 50 in listening and speaking together. Our exams are DELE-style practice, not official DELE material, and the score is only a guide: check the Instituto Cervantes website for dates and the current format before you book.

I finished A2. What is new here?

Above all the subjunctive: quiero que vengas, ojalá, me alegro de que, no creo que, cuando llegues, para que. Then the future and the conditional (tendré, debería, me gustaría), the pluperfect (había hecho), negative commands (no aparques), reported speech, por and para, relative clauses, and the connectors and opinion language you need to argue a point. About one day in three ends with a writing or speaking task in the DELE B1 formats. Every A1 and A2 word counts as known.

Spain or Latin America? And the spelling?

We teach the Spanish of Spain, the variety the Plan Curricular starts from, and our cast lives in Madrid. Tips point out where Latin America differs: Diego from Mexico says ustedes, carro and celular, and Martina from Buenos Aires says vos. Spanish uses the Latin alphabet plus ñ and written accents (está, ojalá), and the spelling is the reading: every word has a native recording.
