Level A1, for example our Spanish A1 course: the present tense, ser and estar, gustar, ir a + infinitive and about 770 everyday words. Those words come back in every lesson here without being taught again.

questions & answers

Is it really free?

Yes. Every lesson, every recording and both practice exams are free, with no sign-up and no ads.

How long does it take?

73 days of about 20 minutes: 59 days of new words and grammar, 12 review missions and 2 practice exams. Nothing is locked, so go faster or slower as you like.

Does it match the DELE A2?

It follows the A2 level of the Instituto Cervantes Plan Curricular, the syllabus the DELE exams are built on. There is no official DELE word list, so our 785 words combine the Plan Curricular A2 inventories with ELELex, a word list drawn from Spanish textbooks, plus a few everyday words those lists leave for later. Our two practice exams copy the current DELE A2 layout (in use since 2020): reading (60 minutes), listening (40 minutes), writing (45 minutes, two short texts) and speaking (about 12 minutes, after 12 minutes to prepare), each worth 25 points. You pass the real exam with at least 30 of 50 in reading and writing together and 30 of 50 in listening and speaking together. Our exams are DELE-style practice, not official DELE material, and the score is only a guide: check the Instituto Cervantes website for dates and the current format before you book.

I finished A1. What is new here?

Talking about the past, mostly. You learn the perfect (he comido), which Spain uses for today and this week, the preterite (ayer comí) for finished times, the imperfect (de pequeña comía…) for habits and descriptions, and how to choose between them. Then the imperative for instructions and recipes, estar + gerund, object pronouns together (se lo doy), comparisons and superlatives, and how to link and give opinions. Every A1 word counts as known.

Spain or Latin America?

We teach the Spanish of Spain, the variety the Plan Curricular starts from, and our cast lives in Madrid. Tips point out where Latin America differs: Diego from Mexico uses the preterite where Spain uses the perfect and says carro and computadora, and Martina from Buenos Aires says vos instead of tú. There is no new alphabet: the spelling is the reading, and every word has a native recording.
